The Vibeary — round-up

Best free audio and sound effect libraries

Sound is the most under-used channel in digital products, partly because licensing is a minefield. The libraries here are the ones with clear terms: free music beds for video, UI sound sets for interfaces, and game audio collections covering effects, ambience and adaptive music. Also included are the procedural audio tools that generate effects on the fly, which are often a better answer than shipping a folder of WAVs — especially for games and interactive toys.

What earned a place

  • Licence terms stated plainly, including commercial use
  • Quality high enough to ship without remastering
  • Sensible file formats and sizes for the web
  • Free tier that does not require attribution gymnastics

Questions

Do I need attribution for free audio?
It depends on the licence — CC-BY does, CC0 does not. Each gem page lists the licence where the source states it.
Should UI sounds be on by default?
No. Ship them off, make the toggle obvious, and respect the system's silent state on mobile.
